چکیده

The philosophy literature has been struggling with the problem of defining causality. There has been extensive discussion about it. Hume taught that talk of causation was metaphysics and should be consigned to the flames (D. Hume, 1748). We present a comparison between two approaches that model this notion: The first one is the normative approach which is based on an interventionist conception of the cause (D. Kayser, A. Mokhtari, 1998). The second one is the structuralmodel approach that gives a new definition of actual causes, using structural equations to model counterfactuals (J. Y.Halpern, J. Pearl, 2005). Both approaches propose a modelling of the explanation using the notion of causation. Halpern and Pearl define the notion of partial explanation, so that every explanation will not be considered equally good. In order to make difference between them, the authors add a probability to the set of possible contexts (J. Y. Halpern, J. Pearl, 2005). Our purpose in this paper is to modify this definition, rather than to use a probability (quantitative modelling). We suggest to affect a degree of possibility (a more qualitative modelling) which is nearer to the human way of reasoning (P. Prade, D. Dubois, 1994). We propose to give a stratification of all possible partial explanations for a given request of an agent. The explanations in the first stratum are more possible than those belonging to the other strata.

Possibilistic Correlation: Illustration, Ex- Planation and Computation of Some Im- Portant Cases

In 1987 Dubois and Prade defined an interval-valued expectation of fuzzy numbers, viewing them as consonant random sets. In 2001 Carlsson and Fullér defined an interval-valued mean value of fuzzy numbers, viewing them as possibility distributions, and they introduced the notation of crisp possibilistic mean value and crisp possibilistic variance of continuous possibility distributions, which ar...

An Interactive Possibilistic Programming Approach to Designing a 3PL Supply Chain Network Under Uncertainty

The design of closed-loop supply chain networks has attracted increasing attention in recent decades with environmental concerns and commercial factors. Due to the rapid growth of knowledge and technology, the complexity of the supply chain operations is increasing daily and organizations are faced with numerous challenges and risks in their management. Most organizations with limited resources...

A New Combination of Robust-possibilistic Mathematical Programming for Resilient Supply Chain Network under Disruptions and Uncertainty: A Real Supply Chain (RESEARCH NOTE)

Nowadays, the design of a strategic supply chain network under disruption is one of the most important priorities of the governments. One of the strategic purposes of managers is to supply the sustainable agricultural products and food in stable conditions which require the production of soil nutrients. In this regard, some disruptions such as sanctions and natural disasters have a destructive ...

Possibilistic Networks with Locally Weighted Knowledge Bases

Possibilistic networks and possibilistic logic bases are important tools to deal with uncertain pieces of information. Both of them offer a compact representation of possibility distributions. This paper studies a new representation format, called hybrid possibilistic networks, which cover both standard possibilistic networks and possibilistic knowledge bases. An adaptation of propagation algor...

On the Complexity of Decision Making in Possibilistic Decision Trees

When the information about uncertainty cannot be quantified in a simple, probabilistic way, the topic of possibilistic decision theory is often a natural one to consider. The development of possibilistic decision theory has lead to a series of possibilistic criteria, e.g pessimistic possibilistic qualitative utility, possibilistic likely dominance , binary possibilistic utility and possibilisti...

Semantics for Possibilistic Disjunctive Programs

In this paper, a possibilistic disjunctive logic programming approach for modeling uncertain, incomplete and inconsistent information is defined. This approach introduces the use of possibilistic disjunctive clauses which are able to capture incomplete information and incomplete states of a knowledge base at the same time. By considering a possibilistic logic program as a possibilistic logic th...
